dental consultation

You may have heard of All-on-4 dental implants before, but the fact is that it’s still a relatively new procedure that isn’t performed by everyone. Specifically, All-on-4 is a full-mouth restoration option where arches of replacement teeth can be attached to the jaw using as few as four implants. It’s much less invasive than the conventional process and the results are typically very good. It’s also a viable alternative to other full-mouth restoration techniques, like dentures.

Because All-on-4 is still somewhat new, a lot of patients don’t know just what the process involves and what they can expect of it. We’re here to break it all down so you can better determine if All-on-4 is right for you.

How Does All-on-4 Work? A Step-by-Step Guide

Here’s a look at the process involved in All-on-4, from the initial consultation to the end result:

  1. Initial consultation: Not everyone is a good candidate for All-on-4, so the first step involves a consultation with the dentist to assess the situation. Ideal candidates have healthy gum tissue and an adequate amount of bone for the implants to embed in to.
  2. Pre-procedure work: Following the initial consultation, X-rays will be taken of your mouth to assess placement of the implants and also verify that you are a suitable candidate for the All-on-4 process.
  3. Teeth removal: Depending on your situation, you may need to have some teeth removed for a full arch to be successfully installed.
  4. Implant placement: Following teeth removal, the implants are then placed in the mouth. Depending on how many teeth you need removed, this step may occur simultaneously with the step 3. Along with implant placement, you’ll receive temporary teeth until it’s time to place the permanent ones.
  5. Final placement: About six to eight weeks after the implants are placed and the mouth can properly heal, you’ll return to the dentist to have your permanent teeth placed. Following this step, you simply care for your new teeth the same way you would your natural ones, and see the dentist accordingly.

Typical Results of All-on-4

For many people, undergoing the All-on-4 procedure is life changing. Some people experience a significant lift in their self-esteem and are no longer afraid to smile or interact with others. All-on-4 is also able to restore a person’s facial shape that may have been previously affected by tooth loss.

What’s more is that All-on-4 is a long-lasting process. The artificial teeth are crafted from durable titanium. In addition to durability benefits, these artificial teeth also permit patients to eat pretty much anything they want without having to worry about pain or cracking a tooth.
